A monochromatic apartment for a passionate music teacher, echoing the black and white of her instrument, the piano.

With the knowledge that this homeowner conducts lessons out of her living room, we designed a solution to demarcate her public workspace from the more personal spaces in her house: a simple sliding door that seals off the pathway to the bedrooms, offering privacy as a fluid part of the environment.

By installing a mirror on the sliding door, we throw open the space and turn the boundary into a captivating point of interaction for the visitor. The reflective surface redirects their attention away from what is behind the door and towards the elements present within the room itself, thus re-engaging them in their surroundings.
